The Parents Association, A.P.E., came to life shortly after the Ecole
Active Bilingue Jeanine Manuel, E.A.B.J.M., was founded in 1954.
The parents of students attending this unique school wished to participate
actively in the life of the school
The association is actively involved in all fields wich concern the daily
life, the education, the safety, the development and success of our
children at school, both scholastic or recreational.
It aims at favoring the dialogue between parents and the different
instances of the school and participating in a common reflexion.
Since the E.A.B.J.M. is unlike any other school, the role of the parents
does not resemble that of parents in public, private or denominational
education.
This implies a greater involvement of parents ; this is Why and How :
Our activities
Meetings :Annual General Assembly : all parents are invited to attend this meeting Monthly meeting of the Executive Committee and the Administration. Monthly meeting of the A.P.E. board. Monthly meeting, in each section, of the administration, coordinators and correspondents. Minutes :Minutes of the monthly correspondents meeting are sent to all parents. Publication :ACCENT has become over the years a real newsletter, window into the lives of our children. Each can contribute and the variety of its articles shows it?s evolution and growing importance. Three issues are sent to each family per school year. Debates :The A.P.E. organises debates for parents and/or students. Guest speakers come to discuss current problems and subjects pertaining to the everyday life of our children. New Parent's Welcome :The Partners in Adaptation group coordinates the APE's welcome to new parents, both international and French. All new parents are offered the chance to have a parent partner - a current parent to give a more personalised welcome, to help facilitate their integration into the school and to answer any specific questions about the start of school. There is a welcome picnic on the Saturday before School starts in September and an information evening with an APE cocktail about 10 days into term. New Parents Café :Depending on the sections, the coordinators and correspondents organise an informal welcome for new parents. The School Spirit :The A.P.E. has contributed in a wide variety of ways to the spirit of the school : Class lists :The A.P.E. prepares them at the beginning of the school year for distribution to all pupils. Prom Night :The A.P.E. has organised and subsidised since 1988 a Prom for the "Première" and "Terminal" classes. Career Forum :Round table discussions with professionals of all levels and horizons allow students to discover varried carreers. English language Video-Audio-CDRom theque :This A.P.E. initiative in the primary sections has had an outstanding success. Extra curricular activities :The A.P.E. subsidizes and participates in the organisation of some of the extra-curricular athletic and cultural activities of the school. Events in school:The A.P.E. organises and subsidizes events such as : Halloween, Christmas, Carnaval, Easter, End of the Year Party. Purchase of school equipment :The A.P.E., to help the school in its educational goals, uses part of its membership fees to purchase teaching and recreational equipment. Year Book:It is composed by secondary school students every year with A.P.E. funding. Summer Camp and linguistic trips :The A.P.E. proposes addresses and information for interested parents. International relations and exchanges. Scholarships :Funded by both the A.P.E. and the school, scholarships have been set up to help families with sudden financial or familial difficulties. Excellence Scholarships granting one or more years of tuition are awarded to particularly gifted students of the upper school. Communication with Public Authorities :In collaboration with the school, the A.P.E. is also involved in the contacts with the "mairies", public authorities, education milieu and international organisations. This has brought improvements for the safety of our children and installations improving the quality of life at school as well as state subsidies granted to private schools. How ? APE, how it functions.
All of the APE members are volunteers. The annual contribution of each family is our only source of funds. The Board :The association is presently run by a board of 25 parents, members of the APE. They are elected for a three year term (once renewable) at the annual General Assembly. The board elects an Executive Committee composed of five members : a president, two vice-presidents (one french, one foreign), a treasurer and an executive secretary. Every board member participates in one or more committees. The Executive Committee meets with the teaching, administrative and financial bodies of the school, after the monthly board meeting. The General Assembly :It is held during the first term of the school year. The board reports on the management of the previous year, submits the accounts for approval, puts forward for discussion the subjects appearing on the agenda and presents the APE’s projects for the new school year. The election of new members take place at the General Assembly. Any parent interested should submit their candidacy at least fourteen days prior to the General Assembly. At the Assembly they will have to present themself prior to the elections. ACCENT publishes the full list of Board members in its first issue of the year. The Correspondents :Their role is to establish a permanent link between the parents, the teachers , the APE and the school administration. The correspondent synthesises and transmits remarks and suggestions of general interest or of concern for their class. Both volunteers and APE members, correspondents are usually two per class. Your class list will identify their name. The Coordinators :In each section of the EABJM, one or two parents volunteer to take on the responsibility of coordinating the work of the correspondents. This entailes preparing the monthly meeting as well as wide implication in the school’s life. Generally, coordinators are board members. The APE never acts on behalf of individual parents. Parents should always deal directly with their teacher and/or the school administration for problems relating to their child only. Your APE is not an exclusive club... being a correspondent or a board member is not a prerequisite to participating. Feel free to come to meetings or to join in activities. |
